Kiss-my-face Kiss My Face, natural body care

For a nearly a year I was a slave to an expensive salon shampoo that promised to strengthen and thicken my hair. The opposite ended up happening and when I couldn’t stand my strands splitting and breaking apart any longer, I found Kiss My Face. Since switching to their Miss Treated Shampoo and Conditioner a month ago, my hair has gained shine and strength back.

Though the shampoo and conditioner is my absolute fave, Kiss My Face offers more than organic shampoo. From lip balm to tooth paste and deodorant to shaving cream, this brand's main focus is to offer all natural and organic products. They are one of the only companies in their field who are still owned and operated by the original individuals who are in-tune with living an all natural lifestyle.

I can not say enough good things about their fabulous, all natural products.

Vichy Vichy Capital Soleil Aprés Soleil

After an unbearable heat wave, hot summer sun and a cool breeze is a welcome combination. Finally, summer weather you can enjoy. Which, maybe I did a little too much! Not only did hours in the blazing afternoon sun hanging out with friends leave me a little lightheaded despite the laughs, it also did my skin no favours. Thankfully, Vichy Capital Soleil Apres Soleil was at the ready to instantly relieve the sting of the careless burn and start hydrating and healing!

REVLONPerfecTweezerSlant Revlon Perfectweeze

Call it what you will: unibrow, caterpillar, bushwoman... the reality is, there's nothing attractive about overgrown eyebrows, no mater how natural and carefree you might think they look. Harsh? Yes! Reality? Also yes!

At a young age I was cursed with the singular bushy brow and since puberty have done everything in my power to shape and grown the unruly hairs. Waxing. Sugaring. Threading... but despite all the services offered in the realm of aesthetics, it remains the tweezers and regular maintenance that keeps my face-framing detail the happiest.

I've tried many tweezers to get the perfect pluck, but my faves are drugstore standbys. The workhorse? Revlon Slanted Tip Perfectweeze Scissor Handle Tweezers.

Sula I don’t think there is any girl out there who wouldn’t want to try this product.

The Sula Paint and Peel nail polish applies like regular nail polish. But when you want to remove it, it peels off like masking tape! It’s perfect for multiple switch ups during the week and for those times when you don’t have nail polish remover handy.

It comes in a range of candy bright colours and is completely water based making it safe for kids.

You have to try it to see how fun it is!

Clearasil-overnightlotion My super sensitive, combination-oily, acne prone skin is the bane of my existence. I have dabbled from treatment to treatment in search of the perfect 3-step skincare routine but always find myself stuck with a moisturizer that just doesn’t do the trick. Most regular moisturizers are too greasy and most oil-free formulas aren’t moisturizing enough. The Clearasil Ultra Overnight Face Lotion really is the perfect balance. The formula is light, non-greasy and takes only seconds to absorb into my skin. After just one use, I woke up to skin that was baby soft yet completely shine free. After a few uses my skin looked clearer and smoother. This product is now officially part of my nightly bed-time routine.

Terracylceearrings There are a few reasons why I love these TerraCycle earrings. First, they are darn cute in their simplicity. Secondly, they are made of 100% recycled certified sterling silver, and last but certainly not least, they are only $19!  The fact that they are made from recycled silver means the raw materials had already been extracted; no need for mining the planet with explosives and chemicals.  Available at Walmart stores across Canada, the TerraCycle recycled silver jewellery collection includes pendants, chains and earrings in various styles, ranging in price from $16 to $29. The quality is the same but the prices aren’t!

Covergirl+lashblast+fusion+mascara CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion

Despite the fact that I grew up with a mother who had enough cosmetics to supply a small village for a night on the town, my beauty routine has never involved more than six steps. Cleanser, moisturiser, concealer, brow pencil (thanks to over plucking in my youth), mascara and a lip colour in stick or gloss form. Over the years I have developed a trusted stable of products for each of those steps... well all except one: mascara.

I've tried many — high-end like Lancome and cheap and cheerful like Maybeline — but until recently have never been completely satisfied. They either clumped, or flaked, or smudged or didn't really do much at all. But it pays to be persistent and the recently released CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion might just be the answer.

Designed to add volume and length, Fusion does exactly what it should... make my peepers pop!

1L. lavender Kiss My Face Peace Soap

Like a lot of people, my mother taught me valuable lessons throughout my childhood, adolescence and into early adulthood when I was still somewhat impressionable.

Don't even bother to open the bill if you can't afford to pay it.

Never match your shoes to your handbag.

Money does you no good when you're dead.

And so the other night when a friend asked me if I had savings I said yes, but not the conventional kind with interest and tax rebates. I bank in karma. Which is why Kiss My Face Peace Soap is ideal. It satisfies both my affinity to vanity and my need to do some good in the world no matter how small.

Peace Soap is made from pure castille soap and comes in a number of "flavours", from lavender mandarin to lemongrass clary sage, to grassy mint. It's biodegradable, paraben free and contains no artificial fragrances. And it also makes a huge contribution to the karma bank every time I buy it!

Proceeds (10% of profit) from the purchase of every Peace Soap go toward an organization called Seeds of Peace. Its mandate? To bring together youth from conflicted countries like India and Pakistan and Isreal and Palestine, and create an environment where they can learn from each other and see that the "enemy" can actually be an ally.

Peace Out!

JuicyBraceletjpg I was very excited when I got the call that Juicy Couture was FINALLY coming to Canada. They opened their first Canadian store in Yorkville Mall in Toronto on June 2, 2010. They also have outlets in select Bay stores.  I’ve practically been living in Juicy sweats at home for 7 years now but my new favourite item is this rockin’ multi-chain bracelet.  And I’m not the only one who loves it. I get compliments on it every time I wear it – which is almost as much as I wear my sweats!  I’ve also got my eye on a gold version with colourful fabric ribbons woven through the flat-link chains and feathers in the middle.

Ener-C Gel Cleanser Etival Laboratoire ENER-C Gel Cleanser

When I entered my 30s, not only did I realise that not paying my bills was not punk rock but just plain stupid, I also was faced with the harsh reality that I had to wash my face. Blessed with good skin, over the years I had washed once or twice when forced to wear foundation or there was a terrible rib mishap, but generally I removed my eye-makeup with a moisturizer, splashed some water on my face and called it a night.

So having spent the past 20-odd years dodging cleanser, it took a lot of shopping around before finding what I realise I can no longer live without, Etival ENER-C Gel Cleanser. It has a lightly foaming formula that washes away dirt and makeup with it's gentle formulation and even gentler exfoliating ingredients. It hydrates, brightens, refreshes, rejuvenates and does pretty much everything short of call me a cab. Which I would simply take to Shopper's Drug Mart to replenish my stock!
