I, like every other woman I know, dread the requisite hair removal. Either it's a hassle, time consuming, or a downright pain, literally. And, I like almost every other woman I know, tend to let things slide a little in the winter months. But even though it's one of my least favourite grooming activities, nothing makes me feel more put together than the feeling of stockings pulled on over freshly shaved legs. Which is why the Venus Spa Breeze is my tool of choice. It's a two-in-one razor and shaving gel bar which shaves time off my... shave, and leaves my legs ready for any weather.
Lola by Marc Jacobs I, like most other women, enjoy a bauble and from the time I could accessorize I was all over my poor grandmother's costume jewelry box. Brooches, necklaces and clip-on earrings added the right amount of je ne c'est quoi to my 5 year old's wardrobe and when I had saved up enough allowance, I would head to the drug store to pick up something shiny to add to my ever growing collection. One of my favourites was the solid perfume brooches from Avon, circa 1975. Hidden in the belly of a kangaroo, or the head of a bear, the perfume and the pin was the perfect thing for a budding beauty editor. Not only was it aesthetically pleasing to my primary school eye, but I could smell good and look good doing it. Now, many years later, I have rekindled my love of the solid perfume, with the requisite bauble of course in the form of Lola by Marc Jacobs. The scent is fruity, floral and light enough to wear without fear of offending. And the bauble is beautiful. A gold base with a flower top is perfect on a chain (the one shown here) and is also available as a ring... so you never have to leave home without it.
Revlon Perfectweeze Call it what you will: unibrow, caterpillar, bushwoman... the reality is, there's nothing attractive about overgrown eyebrows, no mater how natural and carefree you might think they look. Harsh? Yes! Reality? Also yes! At a young age I was cursed with the singular bushy brow and since puberty have done everything in my power to shape and grown the unruly hairs. Waxing. Sugaring. Threading... but despite all the services offered in the realm of aesthetics, it remains the tweezers and regular maintenance that keeps my face-framing detail the happiest. I've tried many tweezers to get the perfect pluck, but my faves are drugstore standbys. The workhorse? Revlon Slanted Tip Perfectweeze Scissor Handle Tweezers.
There are a few reasons why I love these TerraCycle earrings. First, they are darn cute in their simplicity. Secondly, they are made of 100% recycled certified sterling silver, and last but certainly not least, they are only $19! The fact that they are made from recycled silver means the raw materials had already been extracted; no need for mining the planet with explosives and chemicals. Available at Walmart stores across Canada, the TerraCycle recycled silver jewellery collection includes pendants, chains and earrings in various styles, ranging in price from $16 to $29. The quality is the same but the prices aren’t!
I was very excited when I got the call that Juicy Couture was FINALLY coming to Canada. They opened their first Canadian store in Yorkville Mall in Toronto on June 2, 2010. They also have outlets in select Bay stores. I’ve practically been living in Juicy sweats at home for 7 years now but my new favourite item is this rockin’ multi-chain bracelet. And I’m not the only one who loves it. I get compliments on it every time I wear it – which is almost as much as I wear my sweats! I’ve also got my eye on a gold version with colourful fabric ribbons woven through the flat-link chains and feathers in the middle.
Trind Professional Glass Nail File
If I didn't know better I would say it's ridiculous to spend over $25 on a manicure tool, and that since nail files and emery boards (which are not the same thing) are a dime a dozen, spending the price of two cocktails is misguided. Thankfully, I do know better. Trind, a line of nail and hand care products, has been keeping Euro-ladies hands beautiful for over twenty-years. Now available across North America in select salons, not only can you take their 14-day challenge to better cuticles, but you too can be the owner of the best nail file on earth! Made of glass, my nearly indestructible nail file has traveled with me around the world and kept my brittle nails in fine form. And it is definitely worth every penny.
Thomas Sabo Charm Club
I have to admit, I am addicted to Thomas Sabo charms. Though he has several stunning sterling silver collections with detailed designs and sparkling jewels, I am hooked on the fabulous charms. There are hundreds of charm topics to choose from - everything from zodiac signs to Disney characters, fashion to faith, glitter letters to good luck and so many more. I loved the charm bracelet I had started so much, I bought one for my mother to start collecting too. Thomas Sabo is hugely popular across Europe and making its way to North America. If you're lucky enough to live in Toronto or Vancouver, two official stores opened late last year, but there are several authorized dealers across the country.
